    Large-Scale Surveys PROJECTS

African Risk Capacity: Client Feedback Survey

Kimetrica was contracted by DFID to undertake a client feedback survey related to the capacity building services provided by the African Risk Capacity (ARC) Agency to its member countries. The survey instruments were designed and administered by the Kimetrica team through telephone interviews to Government representatives of 11 member countries. The survey aimed to determine ARC Member States' satisfaction with the ARC Agency services. The findings of these surveys will contribute to the improvement of ARC capacity building activities in the future.

    Research and Evaluation PROJECTS

International Household Survey Network Data Clinics

The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) provides support to national governments in survey design, data management and data analysis. As part of this effort, Kimetrica provided technical assistance to government statistics offices through capacity development in conducting national surveys, managing data, data analysis and dissemination. Kimetrica's technical trainers provided regional and national level training to over 20 countries in Africa and Asia on comprehensive micro-data evaluation, data processing systems, survey methods, analysis, indicator selection and public dissemination policy. The project increased the ability of national statistics bureaus to manage national surveys, process data and use data for policy and economic development decision-making.

Increasing Smallholder Production through Structured Demand in TB, HIV/AIDS Treatment and OVC Programmes: Feasibility and Impact Analysis

With the significant expansion of HIV/AIDS, TB and OVC programmes in Africa, there is both an urgent need to meet the demand for expanding programmes and, at the same time, address the increased food security and nutritional needs of programme clients. Under a contract with UNAIDS, Kimetrica conducted a study on the feasibility and potential impact on smallholder incomes of market opportunities for supplying food to support antiretroviral therapy (ART) and Tuberculosis (TB) treatment programmes and Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) services in Africa. Kimetrica conducted case studies in six African countries to gain insight and practical knowledge of the potential benefits, costs, risks and constraints of investing in smallholder supply chains for donor-funded health and social protection programmes. In addition, Kimetrica's staff mapped potential partners in 20 African countries, ranging from NGOs to farmer groups to health facilities that can manage procurement of food between small farmers and social protection programmes. The study’s findings were used to develop programmes to support smallholder production and to provide nutritional support to HIV/AIDS, TB and OVC beneficiaries.

    Microdata Management Toolkit Training

The Microdata Management Toolkit developed by the World Bank Data Group for the International Household Survey Network aims to promote the adoption of international standards and best practices for microdata documentation, dissemination and preservation. Kimetrica conducted hands-on microdata management training for the National Bureaus of Statistics in 15 African countries. In Sri Lanka, Kimetrica trained national staff in improved methods for data capture, documentation, data storage and dissemination of microdata and metadata related to national surveys, such as household and expenditure surveys, population census and health surveys. The training included an introduction to the OECD's Microdata Management Toolkit, an easy-to-use system for survey data management.
